We recently got the AWS bill data flowing into our CCM Environment and have been experimenting with converting the USD amount billed into GBP. 

After configuring Multi Currency and setting our base as GBP, I found that I can't have multiple rates converting to GBP but can have multiple rates converting into USD which seems a bit backwards to me as the bill comes in in USD. 

The issue here is that our Finance team want the ability to track multiple rates of conversion from USD into GBP, as the exchange rate is constantly changing. So, we would want one rate from when we receive the bill, and then another rate when we pay the bill and we would like to have both of those displaying in Apptio.

It works exactly how I want it if I start with USD as my base in project settings, then on the reports I select GBP -> Bill or GBP -> Payment, but i want to be able to select these two rates while having GBP as my base rate so that users don't have to constantly switch away from USD.

This has been a really long winded way of me asking, how do you TBMA'ers not in the US convert your AWS Bills into your local Currency? Do your Finance team need multiple rates to help recharge the difference after the rate changes on the payment date?

Set this up as a discussion as there are no right/wrong answers. Interested to hear how everyone else deals with this.

We're not using this feature at the moment but I'm interested in the responses too. We use one monthly average rate that the whole organisation uses. I get this on WD1 and use a formula to apply it to the data.

I've got one question. How are you planning to keeping these exchange rates up to date? Are you uploading daily or adhoc?

We're uploading all the data daily at the moment, I'm trying to think of a way we could pull the exchange rate each day from the Finance system and upload it. Otherwise we may just wait until the bill is paid and update the exchange rate to the one used there. So each month we would have a billed rate and a paid rate that you can switch between. But we would then just have to update Apptio whenever one of those change.

@Oliver Smith ... what conversion method did you settle on? ... and how did you configure for it? please share.

@Oliver Smith .. you can configure GBP as the base currency, just need to give it a value of 1, and fill the other currencies accordingly.
