There are many ways, but most folks write a script or use some tool to do it (Maybe I'll take this up as one of my examples in my TechXchange break-out this year). If you have DPOD, you already have a solution. Otherwise, it is pretty easy to write. Essentially, you can send a SOAP Envelope to the XML Management interface using cURL. Here is an example of what the SOAP might look like:
<env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
xmlns:amp="http://www.datapower.com/schemas/appliance/management/2.0">
<env:Body>
<amp:SecureBackupRequest xmlns:amp="http://www.datapower.com/schemas/appliance/management/2.0">
<amp:CryptoCertificateName>MyCert</amp:CryptoCertificateName>
<amp:SecureBackupDestination>temporary:///mysecure-backup.tgz</amp:SecureBackupDestination>
</amp:SecureBackupRequest>
</env:Body>
</env:Envelope>
Then save the cURL in a script compatible with the OS of a system having 24 x 7 access to the appliance, and schedule it.
