Automating data uploads to TBM Studio

    Hello APAC TBM Community!

I hope this message finds you well.

Currently, we upload dozens of datasets manually in Apptio every month (quite an enjoyable task, innit!). We're reaching out to see who has experience or ideas for automating this (without using Datadrop or similar on-prem installs). Your tips, insights and expertise are invaluable and could greatly enhance our MEC operation - saving us time and cutting down on the chance for mistakes.

We welcome eagerly anticipate your thoughts, recommendations, and tales of similar undertakings. For those who would like to deepen the conversation, we'd be grateful for the opportunity to arrange one-on-one meetings, to learn more from your approach.

Thank you in advance for considering this and sharing your knowledge with us.

    Warm regards,

    Hello JJ,

datadrop.apptio.com is not an on-prem install for Apptio customers.  It is an Apptio hosted SFTP server solution to support customers who cannot install DataLink on-prem.  There is a simple architecture diagram in this help document which shows what that would look like.  Basically a customer would upload to datadrop.apptio.com and then configure their Apptio hosted DataLink "default" agent to pick up the files from that location and install them in their Apptio project(s). Many of Apptio's biggest clients use this.

The other option for customers who cannot support an on-prem install of DataLink is the Apptio Platform API or our Uploader Service API.  The API solutions are typically used by customers with internal ETL tools or resources who can implement scripted API implementations to support upload.

    Regards,

    Dan Kelly
