    Has anyone encountered this issue?

We have a series of sites for Rail, bus etc.

We now have to add in a CCTV network which has assets located in more than one site.

Do we create a new site to best manage this requirement.

    thanks

    Hi Geoff,

Well I have not encountered but that's the only wayi can think of - if you need the network to be created as a network system in Maximo. Otherwise you will have to create assets in a top level location at each site and won't be able to relate them in a common system.

    Geoff, thoughts:

Officially you should have the asset tied to a location and the location will belong to a system. In this case, the system would be CCTV. However, the location/asset will still be at a site too so you will need to configure some security if you want people to be able to see CCTV on all sites but ONLY CCTV assets/locations.

    Thanks

Geoff, some further thoughts from another colleague...

Whether to use multiple sites or not depends on who is doing the work, whether PM or Corrective Maintenance. If the same people maintaining the bus and rail assets are also maintaining the CCTV network, then these other asstes should be included in each site. They can be linked as like Assets by using the Classification. If there is a separate team maintaining the CCTV Network, then you can use a separate site for managing WOs, etc.

    All the best.

    Thanks Helen,

After some soul searching, we are going to place them into the site they belong with, eg train CCTV in Train stations and bus CCTV in Bus assets.
There will be a series of "central" assets housing the Central monitoring elements.

Most will be in the rail site for simplicity at this stage.

Appreciate your input as it confirms my thoughts about how far you can stretch Maximo and what can be done when encountering a brownfield implementation.
    Geoff

You might consider using CIs instead of Locations for your CCTV. It's been a while since I played with them, but I think you can attach both a Location and an Asset to a Configuration Item (CI), and they are at the system level. A pain point may be reporting, since there would be nothing like LOCHIERARCHY or LOCANCESTOR to rely on, unless you create or fudge that. It might also be interesting to see if Collections could help you.
