Are You Using Watson in Your IoT Solution?

Do you use the Watson IoT Platform in your IoT solution? If not, what are the reasons? If so, do you have any requirements for the Watson IoT Platform?

I've been trying to drum up interest in our company to build a Watson powered Chatbot.  There are so many great things we can do easily now.  I put up a decent PoC in an afternoon,  I think that, at this point, the technology is ahead of IT management vision.

We need to socialize these capabilities with the LoBs to get them to drive some of this adoption.

    Hi Glen,

I agree that the suite of Watson offerings that are now available in IBM Cloud now make it easy to achieve a wide ranges of things.  However, my question was specifically focussed on using the Internet of Things Platform offering as part of your solution.  Is there an IoT aspect to your Chatbot scenario?

    Thanks.

    Martin,

Neither my company nor, to the best of my knowledge, any of our clients are currently using any Watson services. This includes the IoT platform. I work in the Integration area, so all of our "customers" are, for the most part, internal to the organization.  I't like to see the middleware community start making logs and system status information more available by using IoT technology to consume, analyze, and make available the resulting information.

My personal first step down this road was to create an IBM MQ/IIB system status ChatBot as a PoT.  I'll have to take a dive into the IoT platform to see what it can do.  Any thoughts or guidance?

One of our community challenges is socializing and demonstrating what Watson can do and then establishing standard usage patterns that can be quickly and easily adapted by other users.

    Regards,

    Glen Brumbaugh

Hello everyone, It's great to see the interest in the Watson IoT offerings and IoT Platform. Really, the best way to get comfortable with the capabilities offered is to start building something and prototyping using the platform and IoT Connection Service (IoTCS) https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSQP8H/iot-connected-products/kc_welcome.html .  There are also quite a few "recipes" available here:https://developer.ibm.com/recipes/tutorials/?s=iot to help you get started.  And there is even a online course on Coursera to learn more about using the Watson IoT Platform: https://www.ibm.com/blogs/internet-of-things/coursera-iot/ If you have more questions feel free to contact me directly or via this list and I will try to re-direct your question to the appropriate expert across these teams that deliver these capabilities. Hi Glen,

To expand a little on Tim's response, a high level description of the Internet of Things Platform is that it is a hosted MQTT broker running in the IBM Cloud that provides additional capabilities such as a device registry, device management and security, to name a few.  Customers can register their devices with the Platform and then connect those devices and publish MQTT events.

The Internet of Things Platform can be configured to connect to other offerings in the IBM Cloud, primarily to make the data available for more advanced processing/analytics.

You can find the documentation for the Internet of Things Platform here:

    https://console.bluemix.net/docs/services/IoT/index.html#gettingstartedtemplate

The IoT Connection Services (IoTCS) offering that Tim mentioned is a solution that brings together a number of IBM Cloud services, including the Internet of Things Platform, with IBM managing them on your behalf.

    Thanks.

Yes we are using Watson(IoTCS) in several of our solutions. Our main requirement would be a decent analytics/dashboard. But I heard on Think it is coming?

    Hi Jack,

Have you communicated your requirements directly to the IoT Connection Services team?  If not, I can put you in contact with the relevant Offering Manager.

    Thanks.

    Hello all.

I'm using in my demonstration the concept of using a chatbot, multilanguage in order to consult data information from Sensor and possible from a datalake and consults into Maximo and/or Tririga. Has been acceptable by the customer as a way to be easy to diagnostic possible problems by the maintenance team and to reduce time to understand the problem and diagnostics.

I really believe that Watson is the add value for any IoT projects in the IoT Journey.

Yes, I have been using Watson IoT for quiet sometime now. I have developed end-to-end solutions using Watson IoT and also showcased some of them during IBM Interconnect 2016 as well as during IBM Interconnect 2017.
