  • 1.  Apptio BI Adds Text Box Visualizations

    Apptio BI now includes the ability to create text box visualizations within your reports. 

    This feature allows users to create text blocks that can be moved, shaped and manipulated like visualizations in a form of tile. It also allows for basic formatting, and the ability to copy in text and hyperlinks from other platforms.

    To create a visualization within a report, open a new or existing report, select the blue plus icon at the upper-right corner of the page next to the Share menu, and from the drop-down you can select Add a Text Box. After the text box is added, you can double-click anywhere inside the text box to enter text. You can opt to change the font size, left-align, right-align, center, or justify the text, and use the bold, italic, or underline styles.

    This release is intended to help you convey more information within the context of your reports, for example detailing the significance of certain visualizations or explaining the big-picture meaning behind data or results.

    I followed the instructions (and ate the proverbial Carrollian cookie):

    Some comments-and I try to stay positive:

    • It's easy to use 😊
    • It's difficult to resize πŸ˜ͺ
    • Cannot compare to an HTML box in Reporting Studio, e.g. no option to draw a border, sizes are pre-ordained πŸ€”
    • It has basic formatting options, as described above (but it "forgets" the alignment option if we add a new line) πŸ€”
    Summary: a welcome addition to our users' reporting abilities. Hopefully, its features will improve over time.

    Hi @Guillermo Cuadrado , you are the hero we need here on the BI Community, thank you for the comments and images! Most importantly - great feedback and happy to see you have given it a shot. Glad it is easy to use.

    However, I hear you on the capabilities. Playing around with it yesterday I realized while it is definitely easy to start up and use, we recognize the need to optimize items like formatting and resizing moving forward. I can tell you in the future we will be adding additional formatting options, and noted on keeping that formatting consistent line to line. Let me work with the team on these.
