    Posted Mon April 21, 2025 08:35 AM

Stuart. J. Litel passed away on April 19, 2025 at his home in Waban, Massachusetts. Stu was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Barbara E. (Sulkin) Litel of Newton, Massachusetts. Robin Chapman was his loving domestic partner for 20 years in Waban. He was a dear nephew to Barry and Nancy Sulkin of Boca Raton, Florida and a loving cousin of Roberta & Kenny Small of Boca Raton, Florida, and to Sheryl & David Saper of Lake Worth, Florida. The funeral service is at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 1:00 PM . Graveside services are to follow at Sharon Memorial Cemetery, 40 Dedham St. Sharon, MA at the conclusion of the Funeral Service.
Not yet finalized is a post funeral event being planned at an as yet unknown relatively nearby place. I will advise soon as to the location when it becomes known and it will also be distributed by the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel on the day of the service. I will have some personal recollections as time and memory permit in the near future.

I should also note that Stuart was a staunch supporter of IBM Infor mix and the Informix Community for many years as well as serving as President of the International Informix Users Group for many many years and eventually becoming an advocate for Informix as an employee of IBM.

    He will be missed.

I'm heartbroken to hear this news. Working with Stuart was a true privilege - I learned so much from him. We had only recently been talking about his plans to visit Ireland. He was a man of great warmth and heart 💙

I was very saddened to learn of Stuart's passing over the weekend. Stuart was a passionate advocate for the IBM Community for decades. He led community efforts around Informix, contributed deeply to IDUG and the Gold Consultants, and was a founding member of the IBM Champions program. He was a true friend to IBM, to its leadership, and to me personally. He will be deeply missed.

Stuart was so loyal to customers and people he connected with and always thinking about what the most right thing to do for others would be. I remember when I first met him in person at a long ago conference, he was telling me stories of various people he knew and had friendships with. And then like magic, those people would appear and give him a back-slapping hug and chat for a while. He knew so many people and was valued by them for his experience, his kindness, and that loyalty.

I'm grateful for his original work as a founding IBM Champion, for his support of the program over the years, and for his friendship.

    I still cannot believe it.
Stuart was a great guy and will definitely be missed. To me when you say IIUG, you say Stuart.
Exchanged with him not too long ago. Still surprised.
He did  a lot of things for the IIUG.
    Rest in peace.

This is unfortunate news, since Stuart was always a wonderful person.

A true advocate for Informix, which was his life's passion. (Along with Boston Red Sox)

I always considered Stuart a friend and a raw model in many senses.

    May he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Stuart. I first met him through one of his longtime college friends, whom I had serendipitously connected with on a mobile networking application. This mutual friend thoughtfully introduced me to Stuart, knowing he would offer candid, insightful, and immensely helpful advice during my internship at IBM.

Although we never directly worked together, Stuart generously took the time to mentor me, offering invaluable guidance blended with his signature humor and genuine sincerity. He shared many memorable stories and lessons from his extensive experience at IBM, making me feel welcome and valued. I am but one amongst many who will deeply miss his candid advice, unique perspective, and remarkable personality.
