I used to have a system where users could initiate a file transfer from there desktop using DOS batch files. We were on Windows, so we could map network drives for them workstations to a particular folder in the DSTX box, and when they double clicked the icon, all that is did was drop a file that was the trigger to a map. I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t initiate any maps in the same way, with the trigger looking for this file that kicks off any map, and that’s the only function for that input card. In the event you’re on Windows, an FTP script could do the same thing.

I have no idea whether this helps or not for what you’re looking to do, but I’ve always gotten by with the tools that come with the product.

We are looking into using the mapping engine only and put something else on top. Perhaps like Tivoli Workload Scheduler, but we have only started to read into the matter...

We are using something similar like you suggested, using a LotusNotes db with a validation process and the file gets send via drive mapping to the server, but we are looking for something more integrated.

We thought anyone would have experience with only using the Mercator mapping engine and having a scheduler or perhaps a BPA tool on top.

So it can be done, but I don't believe that it is done very often.

Remember also that by circumventing the Event Server you lose the functionality that it provides (resource management etc).

I'd tell you that any scheduler should be able to run the TX maps. Your scheduler will execute your maps via the command server.
