Curious to know what is the difference between

    • AIXToolbox
    • Bullfreeware
    • Perlz

At the outset each of the effort seems like

    • download FOSS package
    • try to build on AIX 5.x, 6.x, 7.x
    • if the build fails, locate and apply patches
    • QA the artifact
    • package the RPM file

Does the community using the packages have one preference over the other ?

Is the user community engaged in these initiatives or are we expected to consume what is put out on the website ?

want to learn from the folks who have been here before me.

    thanks for your time.

    warm regards

    Saifi.

These are three repositories for AIX open source softwares maintained by different people.

AIX toolbox is maintained by IBM.

These repositories have their build environment and you might see sometime packages from these repositories are not compatible with each other.

It is better to use packages from source.

This forum is mainly to address and discuss issue about AIX toolbox and generic AIX open source software.

I would let others to answer your remaining questions.

is there any specific package that you'd like to highlight ?

i'm also curious to know, if there is any IBM proprietary software for AIX (or proprietary software developed by some other company for AIX) that has got open sourced by engaging with the AIXToolbox or Bullfreeware or Perlz team ?

    eg.

consider Apache Web Server, it has a community around it.

In a similar context, is there a community around AIXtoolbox with infrastructure being supported by IBM ?

Thanks for taking out time to answer some of the queries.

    warm regards

No there is no community around AIX toolbox where infrastructure is supported by IBM.

But if people would like to contribute for open source packages for AIX that is most welcomed and they can directly do it in communities.
