In addition to your other reply(ies) I would also suggest that you use IBM's Fix Level Recommendation Tool (FLRT) to ensure that your HMC, Firmware, AIX are all compatible. For example we have an lpar running 7200-05-04-2220. We are going to upgrade it to 7200-05-05-2246 as per the FLRT. The FLRT suggested we wait until late in July before we attempt to upgrade it to 7300-01-02-2320 to allow it to 'age' a little.
In addition, check out what software you are running on AIX to ensure that it's compatible with the upgrade. That same lpar above needs IBM's Storage Protect (formerly Spectrum Protect, formerly TSM) upgraded to support 7300.
See Power Systems at https://esupport.ibm.com/customercare/flrt/#reports

Subject: AIX TL & SP upgrade proces
hi all,
I haven't worked on AIX in a very long time, but this new job has me working on it again. The question I have is doing TL/SP upgrades. If I am correct, TL or SP upgrades are cumulative so to get to the latest level, you only need to download the newest level and it will get all the previous/prerequisite versions. So, for example, if I am at 7300-00-00 and I want to upgrade to 7300-00-03-2246, then I only need to download SP for that version right? Also same for the TL. If I want to go from 7300-00-03 to 7300-01-02-2320 I only need to download the latest package.
thanks in advance.
