Does anyone know if there is a limit to the # of devices that AIX can recognize? I ask because if we carve up the storage into fairly small luns and expose them all through all 4 fibre ports (2 dual-ported cards), we could easily end up with 2000+ devices.

I asked a similar question to an IBM/AIX technical consult a few weeks ago. He could not answer it directly, but he was quite sure that we would hit the limits of the storage before hitting any limits in AIX.

For example I think our DS4700 "only"... support up to 256 LUN's, just keep that in mind. I would recommend looking at the documentation for your storage before worrying about AIX.

In the old days EMC would only provide tiny LUNs so systems had to configure thousands, it can be a pain to manage but AIX should cope just fine with this many.
