I've a question as to how can I revert back to original permission settings on all files under /
The server is IBM AIX 5.3

I've run chmod -R 777 * under root user by mistake, and need now to revert back all original files settings

For example some of the files under /usr/bin have -s- in the permission mode etc

    Help is much appreciated

    Thanks,
    Shahar

The problem you've got is that it's not really possible to be sure what permissions were set on non-standard OS files (you could for example build another server at the same level and get the permissions for most of the true operating system files, but you'll never be sure about /home, or temporary files, or some devices).

There is a case for taking the output of "find / -ls" daily and keeping a record of it, for just such an occasion, but hindsight is always 20/20.
