However, after the system reboot I realized name resolution doesn't work anymore - ping, telnet, etc. nslookup and dig return valid values which means it can talk to the DNS server. The only way to get name resolution to work is to set the "NSORDER" environment variable.

    The /etc/resolv.conf is the same before the update.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    I suppose you have not set the order in the /etc/netsvc.conf file. If you're only using IPv4 just put...

    hosts=local4,bind4

    what does the nslookup on a fqdn tells you. Does it times out? Can you ping the DNS IP address?

    The last step is to check with truss,

    1. truss ping your domain name
