  • 1.  AIX 2FA Made Simple

    Posted 4 days ago

    Hi team,

I've been playing with 2FA on AIX and wanted to share a small contribution back to the community.

This work is based on the excellent 2FA package very generously provided by the AIX Open Source team ❤️

I've simply taken it as a foundation and added a few practical improvements aimed at making adoption easier for everyone - from seasoned AIX admins to people touching 2FA for the first time.

    What I added on top:

    • Simplified installation flow
(install + 2 small config edits + guided wizard)

    • QR code support (no manual token typing)

    • Wrapper script to make setup predictable and repeatable

    • Clear documentation, including rollback

    • No sudo-related surprises

    • Bilingual docs (EN / ES)

The goal is not to reinvent anything, but to lower the barrier so more AIX systems actually end up protected with 2FA in 1 minute (as we do in Linux)

Feedback, reviews, and contributions are more than welcome.

Nice work Hugo. I also wrote an article about this in the December issue of ADMIN magazine, https://www.admin-magazine.com/Archive/2025/90/Secure-AIX-with-Google-Authenticator.

    Thanks @Hugo Blanco !

(I ran into the sudo "surprises" on my first tries and worked around it, glad to see it fixed in a packaged version :) !)

Update: And now that I´ve added the repo -> Also thank you for "fzf", one of my favorite tools on GNU/Linux :) !
