  • 1.  Adding a horizontal node to existing installation

What is the recommded approach to add a new horizontal node to the existing WebSphere cell, that already has few nodes in it with apps installed ? Are there any best practices ?

We are planning to implement this to support additional traffic, I want to use the backup from one of the existing nodes  in creating the new WebSphere installation. I want to know what all I can copy and what not ?

    Thanks in Advance.

In my experience, I always do offline OS level backup.

I believe is quite straigt foward to create vertical cluster using WAS ND.

For setup new instances, just federate new nodes into existing DMGR and create new server under same existing cluster.

I tried to do the same, I backed up one of the existing nodes and restored it on the new nodes. I am trying to see if I can rename the profile and delete all the JVMs, since I will not be able to add these JVMs to the existing cluster.

I am confused as to if I am using the right approach
