This is the story of how I used Apptio and TBM to help my organization…

Before we came to a decision to automate the uploading of our "Actuals" records to be extracted every month, our Operations team is just manually extracting millions of data from external systems and manually uploads them into multiple tables in Apptio. We did this tedious task for a while, and it requires a lot of time to process the data every month. This kind of manual labor is very prone to human error and needs to be constantly reminded that it is already time to perform the extraction and loading.

Upon exploring with Datalink, we were able to figure out that Apptio can make our lives easier and that we can be confident on high accuracy of our data. With the use of Datalink Classic, we were able to automate the processing of our data-from the extraction up to the data loading within Apptio. Thanks to Apptio, we were able to save more time and effort from manual labor and utilized the resources to more critical tasks that need human intervention.

Lessons Learned

• Ensure the correctness of the table name and column names queried from to avoid empty or incorrect data.
• Make sure to test the query first to ensure that there are no SQL errors when the connector is run later.
• Learned how to utilize Apptio features specifically Datalink Classic Connectors to automate efficient data loading and avoid human errors due to manual intervention.
• Multiple queries can be run at the same time by adding the connectors into one Connector Group. This way, we can save time from setting up the schedule of the connectors one-by-one.
