In January of 2023, I was onboarded onto a project with a client who was having trouble creating accurate, consistent forecasts month after month. Prior to this engagement , we found that the main issue stemmed from the very beginning of the forecasting process, data validation. The client was validating that the company financials were being properly transferred into Apptio in a manual process. As a direct result, forecasts were often times used with data that was incorrect, causing countless hours spent trying to understand what went wrong and constantly creating and deleting forecasts till a correct version was ready. This caused many problems with members of Finance being confused as to which plan to make edits to as well as having much less time to make edits due to the struggles of creating an accurate forecast.
Because of the Data Validation Report and the automated process, errors were caught much earlier and allowed for forecasts to be accurate and timely in accordance to the client's fiscal calendar.
