From the inception of time, we have been using Excel to create, archive, and compare our planning cycle on a quarterly and yearly basis. However, we received a request to automate the manual cumbersome planning process that took up hours looking for files that may have been buried in the sub-sub folders or email chains that may take you down a rabbit hole.
The story above is a tale as old as time, but with the assistance of Apptio we have been able to create a separate project that allows us to store and use historical plan data to compare to current figures and provide analysis. That before well, we would still be looking for the files. By using metrics and consistent methodologies throughout the Plan Compare project, we can report and compare across Plans and drill down to the granularity that the end user wishes to see.
The Bill of Service team had started to build the Plan process late June and onto early July and were given the date of release for early August. With teamwork and constant communication between management and the respective Business Management teams, we were able to finalize our reports a week prior to the release data. This left us room with time to analyze the variances and provide comments, which in the past would have been at the eleventh hour.
