Not sure if this is the right place to ask this kind of question but I just wanted to gather your thoughts.

Organisation agrees to make use of free software trail for a short period of time. Sign up to this software is pretty straightforward and is pretty much self service.

Should this access be controlled via IAM function. I.e. requests raised internally, access recertified?

This is not something I've seen within an IAM function previously but something I'd like to get thoughts on.

I think only fact that the application is free or licensed should not decided whether it should be part of IAM. You are thinking of including this free software in your infrastructure. What kind of organization information would be shared with this application? Are you ok if the employee retain access to this after separation? Answers to these question and many more will help to make wise decision.
