  • 1.  8496-52X -- 40G Included Transceivers - BiDi or MPO/MTP

    Posted Fri August 04, 2023 02:43 PM

I'm not sure why this is so hard to get an answer for, but with the 8496-52X machine, part number E089BZX, the literature states that the order of the X3 includes the below transceivers.

    • Transceivers: quantity 6
      • 4 10 GB
      • 2 40 GB

I know from earlier purchases that the 10G transceivers are 10G-SR.

Does anyone know what fiber handoff the 2 x 40G transceivers?  Are they BiDi so they can use a standard OM4 LC-LC patch cable, or are they MPO/MTP type connectors?  We are ordering 24 of these appliances so there is a potential for 48 switch side transceivers and cables that could be wrong and not work.

Anyone know 100% for sure?  Our IBM sales rep could not find out the answer.

    thank you in advance

DP is NOT using the BiDi, DP is using the transceiver which is MPO connection type.

Thank you Ivan and George.  Almost all manufacturers default to Bi-Di these days for 40G and 100G as customers tend to stock LC to LC patch cables....they do not normally stock MPO/MTP patch cables.

Bummer but good to know.  Appreciate it
