    32-bit versus 64-bit

    --------------------------------

    Hi,
we are currently running websphere version 6.1 on a linux box redhat 4 32-bit.
We plan to move to version 7 redhat 5 64-bit OS.
The question we have now : should we install also a websphere version 64-bit or is it better to install a websphere 32-bit ?
I know that the advantage of a 64-bit version is that you could assign much more memory to the jvm's. But if you don't need those big jvm's, what other advantages has the 64-bit was above the 32-bit version ? I only see some disadvantages for the 64-bit version : slower, higher memory foodprint (even with compressed refs), compatibility issues with used libraries.
Has somebody read live experience with this or other pro/con's ?

For large applications and heavy usage better to use 64 bit. There will be performance benefits by using this.

If you are moving to 64 bit OS would not require you to move to WAS 64 bit, unless if you have a app that requires. By going to 64 bit does not gaurantee that everything runs faster.

Take a look at his pdf, this has some good info.
