First of all, I don't know further IBM plans regarding HMC GUI. Thus, via DeveloperWorks I'm trying to point issues, functions which are missing in the Enhancement interface. If the goal is that IBM would drop the classic interface and the Enhancement will be the only option, I hope that all functionality will be available. Yes, there is always a way to make something thru the CLI, but this is not the solution.
The example use of multiple vEth adapters with same VLAN id assigned to the logical partition I can give you from IBM i world. One vEth adapter - interface I have configured in the operating systems, and on that resource I have configured an IP address used for users, administration, but the second vEth I need to have as a separate device because I used as LAN Adapter Configure On Dasd in SST. Thru this device I'm remotely installing PTFs via this method http://theibmi.org/2013/12/09/ptf-installation-from-single-system/.
The second device must be on independent eth resource, and usually it is a lottery, but it may happen that Prod IP and SST IP belongs to the same VLAN.
The other reason why I'm pointing these issues is that I'm about to describe some configuration manuals. For instance, how to create atheSEA via Enhancement GUI, on my blog www.theibmi.org.
I think I'm advanced user of all VIO features, and very often use HMC CLI to speed up the operations, but there is huge community of IBM i admins which have absolutely no idea about VIOS, but they would like to use features like SEA, that's why I think it is very important to explain it via some simple guidelines.
