Removal of the Common INET (CINET) Physical File System

z/OS 3.2 is planned to be the last release of the operating system to support the Common INET (CINET) Physical File System, driven by the need for simplification. The Common INET configuration, found in the BPXPRMxx PARMLIB member, is usually used to set up multiple TCP/IP stacks for socket communication. Clients using the CINET capability should move to a single TCP/IP stack for socket communication, known as the INET Physical File System. INET, also configured in the BPXPRMxx PARMLIB member, has comparable capability and is the strategic network socket communication file system for the z/OS platform.

We currently use multipel TCP/IP started tasks to separate different network zones within a single LPAR. Once CINET is removed, the only remaining options for network separation are the NetAccess function or the creation of additional LPARs.

I would like to see additional mechanisms that allow traffic separation within a single TCP/IP stack.
