Using RStudio on IBM Laptops

  • 1.  Using RStudio on IBM Laptops

    Posted Mon May 06, 2019 09:42 AM

I had been using RStudio (downloaded the latest version of RStudio Desktop
from the RStudio website) for the past 1 year for my learning. Recently I
had been getting reminders for removal of RStudio. Also I am being asked of
the PO and License Number for the installation.

Need to know how others are using RStudio? It am used to and very
comfortable with RStudio than any other platforms/IDE. Is there any place I
can approach to request for continued access?

    Hello Samit

I am an intern at IBM Spain and I've been using RStudio intensively from the beggining of my internship without any issues. In case you keep having that issue, you could check this link: RStudio Online

Sorry for not being more helpfull

    Hi Samit,

IBM is particular about the usage of third party applications. Either you need to have a license or the license should have been procured by your Geo, department or business unit. In the case of free / open source software, IBM has started a Green to Open (G2O) initiative where in a specific team reviews the terms and conditions of the end-user license agreement to see if the terms conflict with IBMers' usage of the software (fine-print about commercial use etc.)

The G2O Listing has a list of software submitted by IBMers and their usage approval status. You'll notice that as per that list, the usage of R-Studio in IBM is not approved. If you are comfortable using it, I suggest you to use the online version, especially the one offered by IBM thru Watson Studio.
