Over the weekend, IBM Japan, in conjunction with four other companies, announced an AI suitcase built to help the visually impaired navigate airports. After my own trips to Narita International and Kansai International in January, I can attest to how incredibly helpful it must be to have this assistance navigating some of the most sprawling airports in the world. The suitcase utilizes the user's location, maps of the airport, and multiple sensors to plan optimal routes and avoid collisions. Additionally, the suitcase is built to provide haptic feedback to help guide the user and provides auditory information about nearby stores they might be interested in.
