What's New in IBM SPSS Statistics 24

Today I am excited to announce the release of IBM SPSS Statistics 24. IBM SPSS Statistics 24 brings enhancements requested from customers for some of our most popular procedures and modules. In fact, throughout the development cycle we worked closely with select customers to address your biggest needs and concerns. This resulted in a product release that feels refreshingly different as we addressed customer requests around enhancing existing analytical procedures and product usability. Here’s a summary of what’s new in IBM SPSS Statistics 24:
IBM SPSS Statistics Extensions for R, Python, and SPSS Syntax.
Extensions provide powerful features for you, the end user, by being a constant stream of new content without requiring a separate purchase or requiring a new product installation. This year we've made extensions both easy and fun to try. I encourage everyone to try downloading and building an extension today by navigating to the new Extensions menu.
Smarter dataset importing and exporting.
Getting data into and out of IBM SPSS Statistics is now easier than ever. We know our users primarily use Excel and CSV files to import and export data, so we’ve prioritized ease of use for these channels. The simplified importing will save you hours of time with our new smarter importing algorithms. Simply try importing a text or Excel file to see how fast you’ll go from raw data to statistical insight.
Custom Tables refresh.
Custom Tables is one of our most popular modules. Its drag and drop interface is easy to use while providing the ability to generate everything from simple summaries to deep statistical output. We've now made this procedure even more powerful by adding new statistical functionality and customer requested features. Navigate to Analyze -> Custom Tables menu to try it for yourself.
Other enhancements
include a new modern look for table output, Python 3 programmability, revert to saved functionality, support for additional date/time formats, and more. See the full list of what's new in the
online product documentation
.
Now I encourage you to:
Download a free trial of SPSS Statistics 24 at

Statistics 24 product documentation
Big thank you to all the sponsored users, beta participants, customers, and IBMers who made this release possible. Be sure to check back here in the Community often for more announcements, downloads, and blog posts.
UPDATE: Version 25 and Subscription versions are now available. They both include all of these features plus more.

Missing Values is a part of the Professional edition in version 24. It is mainly found on Analyze > Multiple Imputation > Impute Missing Data Values. More information can be found by following the links on our documentation
here

Where is Missing Value Analysis on SPSS version 24?

It should be there for v24, v25, and Subscription. It is in the "Advanced Statistics" module, so I'd check to ensure you have that module by running a "SHOW LIC." syntax command. If you need help, you should contact support via
this link

How do I run a Repeated Measures ANOVA on SPSS 24 as it does not give me the drop down option to do so. On older versions of SPSS I done a repeated measures ANOVA by clicking on Analyze> General Linear Model > Repeated Measures... but on the version 24 it only give me a Univarate.... option?

Where do I learn what the data sets for SPSS 24 are actually measuring? For instance, I downloaded a bunch of numbers entitled "Prejudice" for Chapter 2 of Salkind's Statistics for People Who (Think They) Hate Statics. What are the numbers measuring? And where do I find out what all the data sets are measuring? Thanks!

It's difficult to try to diagnose the situation from this blog post format. Please post your question to the Forums section above. I recommend posting under SPSS Statistics -> General Discussion.

I cannot import a text file. I get through most of the process, but it gets stuck on the last screen before the "finish" option. Is there an easy way to resolve this? I have not had this issue with spss 23.

Hi Alex - We recommend a separate program,
SPSS Text Analytics for Surveys
, which works well with SPSS.

Hi Doug! Do you know if SPSS 24 includes text analysis or is this an additional package? Thanks!

Hi Adam - Custom Tables is found under the Analyze -> Tables -> Custom Tables menu. This is a a feature that is not in the "Base" edition of SPSS Statistics, but it is found in the Standard, Professional, and Premium bundles. Alternatively, you could purchase the Custom Tables module ala carte to add to your copy of the Base edition. To purchase, head over to the
IBM Marketplace

Hi - I still can't find Custom Tables......where? Do I need to enable some feature? Thanks!

Hi Anna - Saving your work often is a great practice across any application. Stats 24 does not auto-save, but that's a great feature we can look into in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Doug!
I'm a student at Lund University, Sweden and I'm using SPSS for the very first time. When reading Julie Palliant's SPSS Survival Manual (5th ed.), she points out that SPSS 21 does not automatically save the work. But will SPSS24, which I'm using, automatically save?

One of the latest books I know of is
SPSS Statistics for Data Analysis and Visualization
, but it looks like it isn't available to purchase until October.

Any suggestions for books (e or otherwise) that specifically support v. 24? I've been away from statistical analysis for awhile and need a refresher that correlates to the SPSS version I just purchased.
TIA!

Thanks for your kind announcement, but I can't download it. How should I do?

SPSS Statistics 23 and 24 use the same files, so all you have to do is open them. Please post at the
forums
if you have other questions.
