Getting to know Adeola Ogunkola
Why did you join the data science community?
My name is Adeola Ogunkola from Lagos Nigeria, a tech advocate/savvy individual. The reason why I joined the data science community is to learn and gain extensive knowledge from IBM and the community members and also to network with peers.
What interests you most about data science?
Using applications to solve problems is one major thing that interests me in data science. I remember back then during my undergraduate study at Osun State University. When I was working on my final year project, after I went out to the field to collect my data, the next thing was to analyze it. That was the first time I learnt about IBM SPSS software. Believe me the IBM SPSS software made the project work very fast, which I believe is the priority of Data Science: to get it done fast and get credible results.
What are your areas of expertise?
My areas of expertise are Cyber security and Cloud Operations.
What would you like to learn more about?
I would like to learn more about AI & ML. Both are of great demand in recent years. They seem to be the future of work. Although I’ve been opportune to participate in webinars. The fact that IBM publishes most of those sessions on YouTube makes it more interesting. It makes it easier for learners, researchers and so many others to re-visit them anytime they wish to. I would also like to learn how one can successfully transform into the work force of big tech organizations like IBM.
What are you working on?
At the moment, I am working on developing myself with some selected courses in the IBM cognitive class. The virtual class platform has been of positive impact to my personal development because it has helped me to understand more about how to be agile, productive and also to be a good team player.
What is your current career?
Currently I work in the Information Technology sector as a Registry Analyst. My current role entails Digitizing “Indexing & Scanning of Imaged Docs”’.
What can people ask you about (data science or other)?
Well, I wouldn’t say I am an island of knowledge, but then, they can ask me anything technical and non-technical. If I’ve no prior knowledge I will link them up with reliable resources. However, those who are keenly interested in gaining knowledge in data science from scratch can start their learning journey via this link.
Where are you from and what are your day-to-day interests?
I am from Lagos, Nigeria. I am usually occupied weekdays with work, so my daily activities are majorly me, the computer & plotter. In between I surf the net to develop myself and also network with people.
