 Can com.display.name.format leverage the users Description field?

Hi everyone,

the OpenPages documentation shows here (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/openpages/9.0.0?topic=text-modifying-how-names-users-are-displayed) 4 codes that can be used in Application Strings, referring to fields in the user information page:

  • %MN;
  • %FN;
  • %LN;
  • %EM;

I noticed that also %MN; works and references to the Middle Name attribute - which is not shown in the UI but which is part of the XML if you export users - and which is not documented.

Now I was wondering whether also the Description field of the user information page would be possible to refer to in an Application String? I did try several codes (%DE; %DS; %DN; %DC; %D;) but none of them worked.

Best regards,
Christian

Since the Description field is a more open field, accepting larger Strings, combined with the fact that the documentation does not mention anything about it, and considering the user interface impact of inserting this field into the Display, given all this evidence, I believe it is not possible to do what you want.

What I have done in some cases for clients who wanted the Department to be visible to the person on the screen was to use the first name as the username and change the last name from "Last Name" to the position the person holds. This way, we were able to utilize this field on the screen.
