Today, IBM is announcing IBM Cloud for Telecommunications the first high-trust, unified architecture addressing the fundamental transformation challenges that face telcos.

Telecommunication operators are under pressure to simultaneously deliver enhanced digital experiences, while modernizing networks for 5G and Edge services growth.  Operators that may have deployed proprietary or disparate systems are running into significant challenges to control costs, while delivering new revenue sources.  As telecommunications networks become software-based agile platforms, they must scale to deliver expanding data and media services, while adhering to industry regulations and standards.

The IBM Cloud for Telecommunications is built to address these needs with an open, hybrid cloud that satisfies industry requirements for deployment flexibility, data control and consistent management from the network core to the edge.

IBM Cloud for Telecommunications provides the unifying architecture and data sovereignty that telecommunications companies need to transform and innovate, supported by IBM’s deep expertise in the telecommunications industry coupled with a partner ecosystem that telcos depend on.

As telcos modernize, they are also challenged to move from simply being traditional network services providers to becoming industry services platform driving higher value to their customers.  As a result, telcos are looking to enrich customer relationships with AI driven digital engagement. IBM Watson Assistant and IBM Watson Discovery are releasing a number of features that enable telco consumers to solve issues quickly, naturally and on the first try. This includes the availability of autolearning, which takes customer feedback and optimizes the suggestions provided to customers, streamlining the customer journey as it learns customer needs and goals.
Discovery is also releasing enhancements to search skills, including the ability to automatically create intents in Watson Assistant from existing FAQs.

IBM Edge Application Manager is an intelligent and flexible platform that provides autonomous management for edge computing, so a single administrator can manage the scale, variability and rate of change of application environments across tens of thousands of endpoints simultaneously from a single point of control of their choice, whether it be on premises or in public cloud.

The complexity of building, deploying, and managing applications in multiple cloud environments can ultimately degrade the customer experience.  Use IBM Cloud Satellite for a consistent, on-demand, fully managed set of core application services that run across your on-prem, edge, and public cloud environments.
