Do you want to try your hand at building some dashboards? Good news: Cognos Dashboards, a “light” version of the dashboard component of Cognos Analytics, is available with a standard Cloud Pak for Data license.

What you can do with Cognos Dashboards

With Cognos Dashboards, you can create dashboards that are based on data sources that are connected to Cloud Pak for Data, including IBM services and third-party services. For a full list, see Supported data sources for Cognos Dashboards in the Cloud Pak for Data documentation.

You can also create dashboards that are based on uploaded spreadsheets in Excel or CSV format. After you upload the spreadsheet, you can connect to the spreadsheet as a data source.

Dashboards are intuitive tools to present your data in visualizations. Create conventional visualizations such as table, bar, column, line, pie, and scatter charts, or create advanced visualizations such as driver analysis, hierarchy bubble, packed bubble, and radar visualizations.

A standard Cloud Pak for Data license includes a limited number of licenses with Cognos Dashboards:

• Create and view dashboards: 5 users
• View dashboards: 20 users

If you need more licenses, you can purchase the following Cognos licenses:

• For more licenses to create and view dashboards, purchase the Cognos Analytics User Cloud Pak for Data Subscription license.
• For more licenses to view dashboards, purchase the Cognos Analytics Viewer Cloud Pak for Data Subscription license.

What you can do with Cognos Analytics

Cognos Analytics is a premium service on Cloud Pak for Data that you use to extract meaning from your data with features such as data exploration, automated data preparation, automated modeling, and automated creation of visualizations and dashboards.

In addition to using visualizations and dashboards, you can share your findings by using reports and interactive stories. You can use explorations to discover and analyze data, and to identify relationships and patterns that turn your data into insights. You can use data modeling to fuse together different sources of data into data modules, which you can then use in reports, dashboards, or explorations.
