Database management software
Use one of the supported database management systems on your System z server (DB2 11 for z/OS, or later). Make sure that required program temporary fixes (PTFs) and features are installed. Optional features are marked as such.
Recommended minimum level of JDBC driver
You can check the version of your JDBC driver by using the following command:
java com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Jcc -version
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator |
Minimum Level for Type 2 Connectivity |
Minimum Level for Type 4 Connectivity |
IBM DB2 JDBC Universal Driver (db2jcc.jar) |

4.13.145 |
4.14.119 |

IP23387-IP23396 Depending on the platform. This is sometimes required if you need to specify Db2 for z/OS special registers as part of the connection URL. |
|
Required ODBC driver level Depending on your Linux, UNIX, or Windows operating system, the minimum level for DB2 Connect Version 10.5 is fix pack 4 and the minimum level for DB2 Connect Version 10.1 is fix pack 4. To enable the special registers for query acceleration, see Enabling query acceleration with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for ODBC and JDBC applications witout modifying the applications. Older versions of the driver might allow connections to Db2 for z/OS, but might fail to return results if timestamp columns are defined in a certain way. |
Required Db2 maintenance level
IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, V7.1 on IBM Z requires PUT-level 1710 installed for your Db2 environment.
Recommended Db2-PTFs
To determine all (Db2-)PTFs recommended for use with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7.1.0, use the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command in conjunction with FIXCAT HOLDDATA as follows:
- Acquire and RECEIVE the latest HOLDDATA file onto your z/OS system. Use your normal service acquisition portal or download
the two (2) year HOLDDATA files here: Enhanced HOLDDATA for z/OS.
Ensure you select 'FULL' from the Download NOW column (last 730 days) to receive the FIXCAT HOLDDATA, as the other files do not contain FIXCAT HOLDDATA.
- Run the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command on your z/OS systems and specify Fix Category FIXCAT (IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R1) . The report will identify missing PTFs associated with that category on that system. For more information about the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command, see here.
- Periodically acquire the latest HOLDDATA file and rerun the REPORT MISSINGFIX command to determine if there are new recommended (Db2-)PTFs for IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7.1.0
Incremental update function
IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS (CDC) is included in the IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator product package. Please find information about the recommended CDC PTFs here.
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio is the graphical administration interface for the product and can be downloaded from:
IBM developerworks:
developerWorks/downloads/im/data
IBM Fix Central:
Information Management/DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio
The Full Image for initial installation, including DataStudio, is available here:
DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio Full Image
It consists of a set of Eclipse plug-ins that are added to IBM Data Studio V4.1, V4.1.0.1, V4.1.1, V4.1.2, or V4.1.3.
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio (client) must be at the same or a higher interface level than the IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator software (server). Upgrade the client first.
The latest version of IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio is recommended to be used with all versions of the accelerator server software. To download the corresponding IBM Installation Manager repository for upgrades use the following link: Fix Central
You can also add the plug-ins to an existing installation of IBM Data Studio or to products that are based on IBM Data Studio.
Recommendation: If you use IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio with an older version of IBM Data Studio, consider moving to IBM Data Studio 4.1.3.
The following versions are supported:
- IBM Data Studio 4.1
- IBM Data Studio 4.1.0.1
- IBM Data Studio 4.1.1
- IBM Data Studio 4.1.2
- IBM Data Studio 4.1.3 (only supported using DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio 7.1.0.1 or higher)
The plug-ins and fixes for IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio are available from the following download sites:
- Installation Manager repository for IBM Data Studio: 4.1, 4.1.0.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, and 4.1.3
- Eclipse update site for IBM Data Studio: 4.1, 4.1.0.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3
For silent installations, see Silent installation of IBM Installation Manager, IBM Data Studio and IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio on Windows.
Running IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio on Linux
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio uses the Eclipse SWT Browser Control for a number of software update dialogs. To run IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio on Linux, you must therefore install a compatible version of Mozilla/XulRunner.
IBM Data Studio 4.1, IBM Data Studio 4.1.0.1, and IBM Data Studio 4.1.1 support:
Mozilla 1.4 GTK2 - 1.7.x GTK2, XULRunner 1.8.x - 1.9.x and 3.6.x (but not 2.x), WebKitGTK+ 1.2.x
Read the Eclipse FAQ entry for Eclipse 4.2.2
IBM Data Studio 4.1.2 supports:
Mozilla 1.4 GTK2 - 1.7.x GTK2, XULRunner 1.8.x - 1.9.x, 3.6.x, 10.x and 24.x (but not 2.x nor other unlisted versions), WebKitGTK+ 1.2.x and newer (Note: Eclipse 4.4 and newer uses GTK 3 by default and XULRunner cannot be used in this case as it is not ported to GTK 3 yet)
