Db2diag Log Scraping via Open Source Tools
The log files Db2 produces are human readable but not very well formatted to be read by an automation and to be alerted on. Open source tools help to read, format, store, analyze and put alerts on those log files - especially when it is coming to a high number of installations and therefore a high number of log files. This presentation shows how to bring Db2 logs files into a log scraping architecture that is built on open source software and how to analyze them from an observability perspective. Live Demo included.
Speaker: Markus Fraune is a Db2 admin and IT-Consultant at ITGAIN (since 2015). Servicing several customers with every kind of Db2 database (from tiny OLTP to huge dwh/olap). Speaker at internal workshops and external conferences and user group meetings like DeDUG, WDUG, GSE and IDUG (EMEA, NA, AU). Product Owner of the Db2 performance monitor "Speedgain for Db2" and "Speedgain for Databases" (by ITGAIN). Started with Db2 in 2006 as a Db2 Sysadmin at a datacenter/IT-Service Provider for the German Cooperative Financial Network, handling around 2500 databases.
He is also an IBM Champion for Data and AI 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.
A Db2 Security Primer
Security demands continue to grow and you need to be aware of all the tools and capabilities that Db2 provides you in this area. This session provides a review of the Db2 security landscape for those new to Db2 and to grizzled veterans. We will look at the various features and functions available across the four primary security domains: authentication, authorization, auditing, and encryption. Along the way, we will discover a couple of potential "gotchas" and some lesser-known aspects of Db2 security
Speaker: Nataliya Prokoshyna is a software developer for Db2 LUW at the IBM Canada Lab. As a senior member of the Db2 security development team, Nataliya has worked on authentication, authorization, auditing, and encryption, PSIRT, and other aspects of security within Db2.
Unleash the Power of Monitoring and Tuning Combo in Db2 Data Management Console
In this session, you will learn how to use the monitoring and query tuning functions in Db2 Data Management Console to identify Db2 performance bottlenecks and resolve query performance problems with tuning recommendations. With the easy-to-use monitoring interface, you can systematically drill down and identify problematic bottlenecks in I/O, CPU, Lock contention or query time spent processing in Db2 in real time and historical mode. Identified poorly performing queries can be tuned with RUNSTATS and Index recommendations. The new Index What-if analysis tool allows you to create your own index hypothesis or virtually dropping an existing index for performance evaluation. Such process allows you perform performance evaluation before you implement any index in your database. It has useful function for junior developers to seasoned DBAs.
Speaker: Jason Sizto is a technical lead / manager working in the Db2 Data Management Console / IBM Watsonx.data development organization. For the last 20 years, he has worked in the Db2 and Db2 tools product. With various focus areas such as Db2 monitoring, WLM, query tuning for LUW and for z/OS, text search, SQL processing, performance. You can contact him at jsizto@us.ibm.com.
