    Amit:

Usually End-of-Sales would be about a year after the release of the next major version (so v15 due out this summer) with end-of-support to follow the next year. IBM has not yet announced anything about EOS though so we will have to wait until 15 comes out to see what they do.

A little more information. IBM's policy is to support a current release and one behind. So when Informix 15 is released later this year, it is reasonable to assume that an announcement  for V.12.10 end-of-life process will be made. It is an announcement only and will include the dates when IBM will stop selling  Informix v.12.10 and when V.12.10 will no longer be part of the regular technical support process. This period of time will cover several years. For example, IBM may say "no new sales after 6 months" and "regular technical support ends in 3 years" in order to give customers plenty of time to migrate to a supported version. Even after x years and the product reaches end-of-support, you do have the option to purchase extended support contracts for a version if needed. IBM will not, simply flip a switch and stop supporting a product without years of advance notice.

So if I was you, plan now to migrate to 14.10, not just because its supported and will be supported for a long time into the future but for all the enhancements and bug fixes that 14.10 contains.

    I hope this helps

    Hi Amit,

All of the IBM products have a Product Lifecycle and have a policy type (Standard, Enhanced, etc). Each poilicy has its own rules.

    • Enhanced:??Lifecycle policy Enhanced provides defect and non-defect product technical support for a minimum of five years from the date the product release was made generally available by IBM.?? Following a product???s announced End of Support date (EOS) there is the option to get support extensions for at least an additional three years for an extra charge set by IBM (enhanced ???5+3??? support).
    • Standard:??Lifecycle policy Standard provides defect and non-defect product technical support for a minimum of three years from the date the product release was made generally available by IBM.?? Following a product???s announced End of Support date (EOS) there is the option to get support extensions for at least an additional two years for an extra charge set by IBM (Standard ???3+2??? support).

Informix 12.10 (Enterprise, Workgroup, Express) has an "Enhanced Policy".

Informix 12.10.xx was released on 2013-03-26 and the end of support date (EOS) has not been annnouced yet. The EOM (End of market) has not been announced yet.

IBM supports at least the last 2 major releases of all of its products and can also support more if it does not decide on an EOS for a particular version.

So when version 15 comes out, it can decide to do an EOS for version 12.10.

We advise all of our customers to prepare to migrate to the last version available as soon as possible since the migration cycles can be long (depend on the customers procedures) and need to planified depending on the customers and the way they function.

For your own information, version 14.10 was released on 2019-03-14 and has the same policy as version 12.10.

IBM was providing question and existing bug upgrades with standard support cost to EOS versions. They will no longer by offering that. If you have an EOS version the only thing that continuing to pay standard support will get you is a free upgrade to a supported version. You will have to pay for Extended Support to get existing bug fix updates in your older release if they exist.

Since most folk using EOS releases like 11.70 and 11.50 have stopped paying for standard support, this change does not really affect many installations.
