IBM Db2 Automation Expert for z/OS is a new product offering that helps simplify basic maintenance tasks. One of the maintenance tasks that can be challenging, even for the most seasoned DBAs, is what utility options to select, when to run these utilities, and how to standardize these practices across your shop.

Db2 Automation Expert provides a solution with its best practice profiles. These profiles come with the product and provide ready-to-use best practices, such as the values for various utility options.  For example, you can use a best practice utility profile for running RUNSTATS or taking incremental image copies. These profiles include the optimal syntax specifications according to IBM recommendations, as shown in the following screenshot:

These profiles are shipped read-only. You can copy and customize them if needed.

Best practice profiles are provided for various object lists, utility syntax, exception situations, and job JCL. These profiles allow you to not only get up and running quickly but also standardize utility usage, syntax, and JCL across your shop.

These best practice profiles are just one feature of Db2 Automation Expert. For more information about Db2 Automation Expert, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/daefz/1.1.0 and check out this video about Db2 Automation Expert
