Hello,
As we near the end of 3Q 2023, I want to take the opportunity to update you on what’s happening in the world of Db2 for z/OS.
We’re currently wrapping up function level 504 for V13, and there are two new features in particular that have generated a great deal of excitement. The first is the widely anticipated second phase of utility history. We delivered utility-level history at GA of V13, and now in FL504 we’re delivering a second catalog table that will store object-level information. With this update you will now easily be able to see a complete utility history for any given pageset in Db2, as just one of the many use cases for this type of information.
The second item is the culmination of work that also started at GA of V13 to track dependency at the statement level rather than at the package level. At first glance this might seem rather esoteric, but FL504 builds upon this capability in order to minimize the impact of package invalidations that otherwise can cause application threads to queue and fail whilst waiting for autobind to occur.
Once FL504 is released you can read more about these features here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-for-zos/13?topic=13-db2-function-levels .
To hear more about these and other new features, we hope to see you at the Data Tech Summit at SVL or at IDUG in Prague in October. Also in Prague we will be holding a Db2 Customer Advisory Council meeting. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape the future direction of Db2 as we discuss technical strategy and technical roadmap in detail to make sure that we continue to deliver the capability that matters most to you. If you are already a member of the CAC then we look forward to seeing you there. If you are not and you would like to be, please contact Dorothy Lin (dclin@us.ibm.com).
Thanks, Haakon.
