While the .z file format can be read by the gzip utility, it is not the native format, but instead a legacy mode, so that files created by the compress utility can be read. The GZIP adapter will not handle .z files from the compress utility (or created with gzip in this legacy format).

Hi Paul,
My coworker had asked about .Z compressed files (Linux/Unix) on the GZIP video and you responded that this video would be out shortly. We both have watched but it still does not seem to cover the problem we are trying to solve. Currently we haven a script that uses GZIP to decompress files. I wrote a quick ITX map to do the same with the GZIP adapter however it will not handle early GZIP files like the actual GZIP utility does, primarily .Z compressed files. We tried both the GZIP and ZLIB actions and even leaving AUTO but nothing seemed to work. Any insight?
