Retail Predictive Analytics with Weather (using SPSS and Cognos)

Thu May 21, 2020 12:20 PM

Use machine-learning models and The Weather Company data to help you understand how a retail inventory manager, marketer and retail sales planner can quickly determine the optimal combination of store, product and weather condition to maximize revenue uplift, know what to keep in inventory, where to send a marketing offer or provide a future financial outlook.

What's included?

  • A structured business glossary of business terms.
  • Sample data science assets
  • A sample dashboard to visualize the results of the analysis.

How does it work?

The glossary provides the information architecture that you need to understand weather related business measures. Your data scientists can use the predictive models and dashboards to accelerate data preparation, machine learning modeling, and data reporting.

Easily visualize which retail locations, products, and weather conditions have higher predicted revenue uplift in sales based on season to improve product inventory planning and improve marketing campaign effectiveness, optimal inventory and financial forecasting.

When you import the accelerator:

  • The data science assets are added to a new analytics project.
  • The terms are added to your business glossary under the Retail Predictive Analytics with Weather category in the Industry Accelerators category.
  • The dashboard shows how analysts, marketers, inventory mangers, and retail planners can take advantage of predicted percent uplift.

To use this accelerator on Cloud Pak for Data v3.0.1.0, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the retail-analytics-with-weather-industry-accelerator.tar.gz file, which is available on the https://github.com/IBM/Industry-Accelerators repository.
  2. Determine how you want to import the accelerator:
    • If you would like to pick which components you import, complete the following steps:
      1. Extract the contents of the package.
      2. Import the governance artifacts to Cloud Pak for Data:
        1. Log into the Cloud Pak for Data web client as a user that has the Manage categories permission and the Author governance artifacts permission.
        2. Import the CSV file that defines the categories. The file name should have the following format: accelerator-name-glossary-categories.csv.
