Predicting Demand and Providing Energy when it's Needed
Efficiently managing thermal systems to produce accurate energy volumes based on anticipated demand and energy generation is critical. Generating too much energy can lead to energy spillage, while Under-generation can result in widespread blackouts. Furthermore, replacing estimates with accurate forecasts can makes process more efficient.
There are some unique challenges that need to be addressed:
There is a need to meet fluctuating energy demands by creating an optimal balance between energy generated from renewable sources and non-renewable (thermal) resources
It's difficult to predict precise behavior of renewable resources such as wind
Building optimization solutions with uncertainty involved can be computationally expensive
- Leveraging algorithms that can accommodate for the uncertainty arising from renewable resources to optimize forecasts and decision making
- Combining the presently disjointed parts of forecast, optimization and planning, into a seamless and coherent end-to-end solution
- Using computationally efficient optimization methods to deliver results quickly

Importing the accelerator
To use this accelerator on Cloud Pak for Data v126.96.36.199, complete the following steps:
- Download the DemandPlanning-industry-accelerator.tar.gz file.
- Extract the contents of the package.
- Follow the instructions in the README.pdf.
