Here is the companion post to the SLO/SLI discussion: Error Budgets. With SLOs, Services describe their reliability needs based on their user expectation and market. A 100% reliability would stifle velocity, therefore a realistic service level objective should be less than 100%. The SLO implies an acceptable level of unreliability, called Error Budget. This is a budget that can be allocated.
