Last week I mentioned hindsight as a crucial factor that we all used in reflecting on what happened with Crowdstrike. Hindsight allows us to analyze decisions and outcomes with the knowledge and understanding gained after the fact. However, this may lead to a cognitive phenomenon where people perceive past events as having been more predictable than they actually were. Hindsight Bias is just one example of Cognitive Bias, where people create their own "subjective reality" from their perception of the input.
This week's 30-sec SRE dives into the topic of Cognitive Bias, which is important to reflect on, especially when performing Post-Incident Reviews.
