IBM Cloud Logs is available on the IBM Cloud Catalog.  Instances can be provisioned in the Frankfurt and Madrid regions. The service will be deployed in available in other WW MZRs over course of the summer.

Accelerate your Observability Insights without sacrificing data or budget

IBM Cloud Logs can optimize your observability to help improve infrastructure and app performance. A summary of key new features was previously announced. Highlights include:

  • Cut through data noise with Cloud Logs machine learning algorithms.
  • Search on all retained data. Data stored by the service on Cloud Object Storage (COS) is available for search for as long as the data is on COS.

This allows you to break free from traditional 7, 14, 30 day type search plans.

  • Priority insights enables super-fast query results.  If you still seek traditional indexed search plans Cloud Logs supports 7,14,30, 60 and 90 day retention periods.
  • Operate efficiently. Assemble dashboards with pre-configured alerts and dashboards; integrate with alert, SIEM, and the ability to launch into and out of the service to bespoke tools.
  • Optimize log value to match your observability budget. Cloud Logs offers a tiered approach for data processing:
    • Store and search: Data retained primarily for compliance obligations may be stored and searched as necessary at a low cost/GB.
    • Analyze and alert: Log and event data with analysis and alert value is processed as a mid-tier cost/GB. The mid-tier includes adding definition of metrics from logs, allowing visualization of trends and preparation for future incidents quickly.
    • Priority insights: Select and configure most critical and highest value data to users’ operations for priority query results. Data logs in this tier are retained in hot storage.

  • Migrate with flexibility to consolidate:

IBM Cluod Logs accepts data previously manage from either IBM Cloud Activity Tracker or IBM Log Analysis

    • The IBM Cloud Logs migration tool enables existing IBM Log Analysis and IBM Cloud Activity Tracker instances to be migrated. With a few simple steps many configurations can be quickly moved. Maintain flexibility of choice: you can consolidate instances from both legacy services into a single Cloud Logs instance; or you can maintain separation and use multiple Cloud Logs instances to accomplish your observability needs.

Routing your Observability data

Cloud deployment patterns are increasingly sophisticated and landing your observability data into Cloud Logs is the first step towards accelerated insights. In preparation for IBM Cloud Logs arrival we have enhanced our IBM Observability Routers capabilities allowing you to achieve greater configuration control of your Observability data. IBM Observability Routers are a key source of data into your IBM Cloud Logs instance.  Read about the enhancements here.  Highlights include:

  • IBM Cloud Logs Routing introduction: Log data originating from multiple applications, possibly spanning multiple cloud accounts and regions can be configured to land in the designated IBM Cloud Logs instance of your choice. Data originating from one MZR can be routed to a specific Cloud Logs instance in another MZR.
  • IBM Cloud Log Agent availability: Send your application log data through the same Logs Routing service used by service platform logs. The IBM Log Agent gives you end-to-end IAM control of your Observability data. Configuring endpoints with the IBM Log Agent simplifies runbook configurations where failover scenarios may be more simply accomplished through an update in the Logs Routing interface and avoiding the need to change many individual agents.
  • IBM Cloud Console configuration control for IBM Cloud Activity Tracker Event Routing: The ability to define where Activity Tracker event data is enhanced with the addition of a UI there event routes can be configured.

Focus on innovation and software delivery

The combination of IBM Cloud Logs and the Observability Routers enables you to control and optimize our Observability data.  Routing tools provide a simple way to define and execute to sophisticated data handling needs to consolidate your data.  IBM Cloud receives your Observability data and helps you cut through data noise to expedite insights and reduce application downtime.
