    Summary

In this session, we will provide an overview of Universal Reports, tips and tricks, and provide a view of what is in the labs. Universal Reports offers various new features that are currently not available in other PAfE report types, such as native MS excel conditional formatting, full support for TM1 hierarchies, end user access to the set editor for report content control, and much more.

    Xavier

Having experimented with Universal Reports, beyond the basic concepts of grid based data sets being returned from cube MDX statements and how to construct those statements etc I think one thing that everyone would want to know is how far Universal Reports can now or will in the future be able to replace the functionality Dynamic Reports. If I understood correctly from one of the prior AMA's there was a suggestion that this would be the case at some stage.

Because of the way dynamic reports work with row insertion/ deletion (vs cell insertion in Universal Reports) and custom formatting at the top they allow for a few things including:

    1. Multiple nested dynamic reports occupying different rows in the worksheet which do not interfere with each other. Universal reports perform cell insertion so it would be useful to understand how to prevent them colliding/ interfering with each other.
    2. Assuming a standard conversion from the viewer to a dynamic report then limited to this case a single MDX statement Universal Report might be a potential replacement method however:
      1. with dynamic reports it is possible to use expanded cell function based reporting, often with all sort of conditional logic applied at a cell level
      2. a very common approach is to add columns (generally to the right - and by modifying the format name range can have custom formatting applied) which contain user defined formulae (Using various excel functions) which may or may not  refer to PA data (Perhaps references to multiple cubes, conditional logic etc) , once again this rarely can be replicated with MDX statements

I understand that these points may be too involved for an introductory webinar but I think that most people would be seeking information on them soon enough.

    Thanks

    John

John, great question.  The December 5th session will provide the answers you are looking for. As we mentioned before, the roadmap for Universal reports includes the abilities mentioned above, however, it is not limited to be a "dynamic" reports replacement. On December 5th we will also discuss and show a static format. (TM1VAL)

Hi @Xavier Osorio, one question, can you have calculated columns in Universal Reports or can you reference UR data in DBRW and other Excel formulas?

    Thanks!

    Vlad,

As of 2.0.92 we do not support calculated columns, however our intention is to add this capability in the very near future.  Calculated columns, rows and UDCs, will be supported. The legacy formulas will continue to work as always, they will not gain hierarchy support.  TM1VAL was made available in 2.0.92, this new formula will retrieve a TM1 value into a cell.

    Hi Xavier,

I took part in the webcast last week. Unfortunately, I missed asking my questions. I have already experimented a bit and the following questions have arisen:

    1. How has the asymmetrical folding and unfolding of C-elements to be set up that it works as it does in PAW?
    2. Is it possible to combine the well-known formulas for dynamic reports in the Universal Report? E.G. SUBNM, DBRW, TM1RPTROW.
    3. Is it possible to manipulate the hidden rows 1-27 using native Excel functions (e.g. concatenating cell references on conditional basis) to create more dynamics? E.g. exchanging the MDX statement for the row dimension by reading it from an auxiliary cube and exchange it depending on the selection in a dropdown? (Same John O'Leary addresses with his point 2.1)
    4. Zerosuppresion works in Excel. Is there a special setting for zero suppression in PASSL? Does not work for PASSL 2.0.91, Pafe 2.0.91, PAW 2.0.91, PAL 2.0.9.19

I know those questions are quiet specific. But may there is detailed documentation anywhere?

    Kind regards

    • How has the asymmetrical folding and unfolding of C-elements to be set up that it works as it does in PAW?

Universal reports currently does not support asymmetrical folding and unfolding in the current version, however we are working on adding the capability in the near future.

    • Is it possible to combine the well-known formulas for dynamic reports in the Universal Report? E.G. SUBNM, DBRW, TM1RPTROW.

We do not recommend the formulas listed above as they do not support hierarchies, if your universal report contains members from a hierarchy, these formulas will fail.  We recommend TM1SET, TM1VAL. Mixing Dynamic report formulas and Universal reports is not recommended. We will enhance our calculation capabilities, you will be able to add standard excel formulas, UDCs, and also support attribute-based formatting.

    • Is it possible to manipulate the hidden rows 1-27 using native Excel functions (e.g. concatenating cell references on conditional basis) to create more dynamics? E.g. exchanging the MDX statement for the row dimension by reading it from an auxiliary cube and exchange it depending on the selection in a dropdown? (Same John O'Leary addresses with his point 2.1)

YES, as long as the resulting MDX is syntactically correct.

    • Zerosuppresion works in Excel. Is there a special setting for zero suppression in PASSL? Does not work for PASSL 2.0.91, Pafe 2.0.91, PAW 2.0.91, PAL 2.0.9.19

I'll have to verify this, the outlined behavior is not normal.

    Hi Xavier

Regarding the prerequisites, you mention that for PA Local the TM1 server must be 2.0.9.18 IF2 or newer but on your slides it says that PA Local do not require an upgrade to 2.0.9.18 IF 2.
