  • 1.  Showing Alias Attributes in Cube Viewer

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know why, in the Cube Viewer, you can't display alias attributes alongside the members. When you click on Show Attributes, the menu only displays the text and numeric attributes of the members in the dimension/hierarchy.

I'm sure there will be a good reason why they don't/it wouldn't make sense but I've found myself on a few occasions wanting to put alias elements side by side in the view to provide more context to the user without having to create a new attribute that combines them.

    Mant thanks,

    Chris

Hi Chris, also not sure why there is that limitation but you can work around it using a calculated member in MDX.

Have a look in the blogs at part 5 of my series on MDX views or here

Using this technique, you could stack multiple aliases and have them in the workbook, should you export the view.

Just found that there was an Idea created a couple of years ago for this so it seems there wasn't/isn't a huge technical reason for not including them but clearly some dev work needed to make it happen.
