  • 1.  Searching within TM1 objects using PAW

    Posted Wed October 30, 2024 01:04 AM

There have been many comments and questions around being able to look for a keyword or a phrase within your TM1/PA models i.e. rules, TI process and other objects.

Have a look at my latest blog article for one way of solving this within PAW.

That is pretty creative.  I like it!

We do have a Workspace Modeling Workbench feature coming in 2.0.100 that will search the content of rules and TI processes.  Here is a sneak peak:

Clicking on one of the results will open the rule or TI editor with the search feature enabled.

Great case and the use of drill through results placement, George!

Also, to anticipate the future questions the additional search on TI processes from Control Objects would be added later for the Workbench!

We do support shortcut key Ctrl+F  to replace the strings in Rules and TI editors. To be proactive on the approach, I'm looking for the good not dangerous approach to Search and then Replace in bulk. It'd be possible to implement, just we need to be careful.

    Best regards,

    HI Stuart and Svetlana,

    Thanks for the sneak peak.

Will the results have some sort of hover over tooltip to show the relevant code where the string was found.

If not, that would mean you need to open each object, navigate to the line, maybe searching again as the search box is open by default, to see if relevant.

It may then be more efficient to have the low-tech solution in the CSV viewer, in the absence of the tooltips.

Bulk find and replace is a nice option but can wreak untold havoc as anyone having made mistakes doing this in Excel can attest to.

Thanks too for sorting out the hierarchy alignment/indentation issue – noticed on Wednesday that all is back to normal again.

    Hi George, Stuart, and Svetlana,

This functionality is available in SPACE, you can search, preview, and replace directly within PAW, with options to include or exclude system objects. In future versions, we plan to add support for searching across dimension elements and attributes as well.

    Nicely done, Vlad!

Is it also supporting multiple object return and filtering for rules vs TI Process scripts?

    Best regards,

    Thanks Svetlana!

Yes, in the current version, you can search across both Processes and Rules. In upcoming versions, you'll be able to search across additional objects, including Chores, Dimensions, Views, and Subsets. We'll also introduce enhanced functionality, such as "Replace Next," with options to review and roll back changes, providing greater control over your replacements.

    Hi Stuart/Svetlana,

I think I have seen a sneak preview of this functionality but just wanted to confirm that when you do a search through the Processes and Rules that you have the option to search the Processes or the Rules, because often you know whether it is a rule you need to search or a process.

    regards,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Yes, indeed, the filter is inclding three options:

    All

    Rules

    Processes

You'd be able to check that you'd need.

We'd add the control processes to the search later,

    Best regards,
