  • 1.  PDF Report not rendering

    Posted Thu January 16, 2025 09:44 AM

    Hey all

    When we now output a report as PDF a blank grey screen is displayed:

    This never used to happen

    Has anybody else had this happen or knows what may be causing it?

    The only change recently is that the system was updated to FixPack 5, could this have changed how PDF are output?

    We are on v11.2.4 FP5

    Many thanks

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

    members of our German community had the same problem and here's the reply from IBM Support:

    There was a change in 12.0.4, with the change backported into Fix Pack 5. It was then noticed report turn out blank. If you put these two Advanced Parameters into the system, wait a few minutes, the report should render as normal. This change reverts the PDF viewer to the one used in FP4.

    VIEWER_PDFJS = FALSE
    RSVP.PDF.USE_ADOBE_DRILL = TRUE

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Robert

    Many thanks for your swift reply

    That seems crazy to me that an advanced parameter has to be entered to fix this issue. We have a 12.0.4  instance too that it is happening on too

    Do you know if the advanced parameter should be entered against the ReportService and BatchReportService, if not do you know what against?

    regards

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

    we don't face this issue and thereof I don't have any further information on where to activate these parameters exactly. The first one sounds like to be entered in the new admin console and the second one could belong to the Report Service.

     @Andreas Kuschel: can you chime in please. Thanks!

    We had the same issue.  I created a case with IBM and got this response:

    Your IIS may not have the MIME type - .mjs

    This MIME type is new and was added to our IIS script recently. Here's a technote on this -- https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7176858

    Hello,

    We (on v11.2.4) also recently updated an environment to FP5 and found the same issue with PDFs.  I opened a ticket with IBM, was referred to this link: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/11.2.0?topic=2024-updated-pdfjs-library

    Updating the MIME types in IIS fixed the issue for me.

    Hi Scott,

    We had a similar issue when we upgraded to 12.0.4.
    We ended up unknowingly reconfiguring IIS on a test server which resolved the issue (after clearing the cookies).

    We had the same issue later on the production server and did some further research and found this article https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/all-cognos-pdf-reports-render-blank

    This resolved the issue without reconfiguring the entire IIS.
