Although in theory the answer indeed is yes, in practice my personal recommendation is no, try to avoid IF's unless the IF's new updates is absolutely critical to you. If not, keep away from them - they are only limited tested - and install the latest FP (Fix Pack). For version 11.1.7 (Long Time Release) for example that is stilll version 11.1.7 FP4.

Subject: New Cognos install - start with Fixpack?
Hi,
For a new Cognos install, does it work to start with an interim fix that counts as a fixpack?
We are installing Cognos 11.2 on a new server and wonder whether to start with installing Cognos 11.2.1 and then installing 11.2.1 Interim Fix 3 or whether we could just install Interim Fix 3.
Interim Fix 3 is the full-fledged fix for LOG4J, not the one where just the few files needed to resolve the problem are delivered. The file sizes for the installer, client and server files are about the same for the interim fix as those for Cognos 11.2.1 .
Does anyone know?
Thanks
Michael
