We are an IBM cloud user.  I use RDP frequently to search my models - kind of old school - use the findstr command prompt to look for references to things in my views, subsets, chores and procedures, or i use it to search transaction logs and ignore processes or users that i don't want to see in the results.

Do you anticipate adding tools to the environment to let me do that (maybe they're already there)?

An example would be to find any procedure that references "Alloc2 Rate".

    Thanks,

    Josh

Hi Joshua. This search functionality is not yet available in Workspace - I am also hoping in time that this will be added, in particular to search rules and processes. I do believe that the File Manager will be enhanced prior to the Rich Tier being decommissioned, so assume that one will be able to access and download the .rux and .pro files (amongst others) to still do the "old school text editor" searches locally until this functionality is available in Workspace. Here's hoping that's not too long from now!

    Hi Josh,

We are planning to add a search feature that returns all TI processes that contains a search term.  Same with cubes that have rules that contain a search term.  This new search functionality will likely show up in the Workspace modeling Workbench sometimes after the rich tier removal is complete.

Sounds good Stuart, but can we also have the ability to search other/all objects for a term or a list of terms too? e.g. subsets and views. Like Joshua above, we routinely scrape the file system across all tm1 objects to impact assess changes or decom actions. We can bundle these in a single command and return an impacted object list for each term in one go. I'm guessing this would not be possible on SaaS or a containerised version of PAL on-prem without equivalent built in functionality.

    Hi Michael,

Searching the file system is not something we would consider.  We have the GIT feature to help track changes in the model.  We are working to reduce dependency on the file system to manage objects in TM1.

    Hi Stuart,

Noted on the last point. So would you build a similar search feature for view and subsets within the tool? We have yet to be able to use the new GIT functionality so apologies if this is a silly question: would you be able to search for a term within the contents of a dynamic subset (e.g. used in the MDX) or static subset, or in a set defined direct in a view via GIT? Thanks

    Hello,

Thinking out loudly, the filter for the type of objects could be similar to what we now have in PAW (where we can search for the name of such an object).

For the search term(s) however, it would be good to mimick functionality in say, Notepad++. Most importantly, allow regex to search. This means that we can just pipe-delimit a string with 4 words for instance: revenue|rev.*|turnover|to and have it return hits from BOTH processes and rules.

Would there also be a Replace feature ? Like search for "All Months" and replace with "Total Year" ? It's what Notepad++ also offers although with the huge difference that PAW would be hot promotion and Notepad++ requires a TM1 service restart.

In the Architect, when clicking on the "Cubes" node of the TM1 objects, you can see in the property window, all the details of each cube. More importantly, you can have a look at the memory used for each cube. Is this going to be accessible through the Workspace, when RDP connection will be removed?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mirko,

The modern REST API does not provide memory utilization information about objects in TM1.  This is not something we can implement in the modern Planning Analytics clients.

For now on V11, would }StatsByCube support this request, assuming Performance Monitor is enabled i.e. PerformanceMonitorOn=T?

You would just need to divide by 1024 to get to the KB in the properties window.

    Very insightful, thanks George!

Now that we talk about enabling / disabling parameters in the tm1.cfg file, another question comest to my mind.

How could these parameters be managed in the tm1.cfg file, if access to the RDP, and as a consequence, to the \\data\s folder will be removed? @STUART KING

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Mirko,

Administration in PAW is one way to change the configuration:

Another way is to SFTP the config file to your local machine, make the update and then send back, however the preferred way for PAoC is through administration. Any changes to tm1s.cfg should be done when the database is not running as I have had issues in the past updating to PAoC on a live model.

Also, you may need to edit tm1s-log.properties which would also require you to SFTP the file down and back up again.

Saying all this, there are limited settings available in PAW e.g. LoadPrivateSubsetsOnStartup is not available.

You could also use the REST API to update/set values. I was doing this via an Excel workbook and if interested, check out the blogs section, there are some examples to get you started with running REST API calls through VBA.

I am sure Stuart will add more to this discussion...

George, thanks for pointing out that the }Stats cubes can be used to understand how much memory the cubes are using.

We are adding the following TM1 database configuration parameters in Planning Analytics Adminstration in the Workspace 2.0.97 (June) update:

    LoadPrivateSubsetsOnStartup
    MagnitudeDifferenceToBeZero
    MDXSelectCalculatedMemberInputs
    MTQ.ImmediateCheckForSplit
    MTQQuery
    PrivilegeGenerationOptimization
    ProportionSpreadToZeroCells
    PullInvalidationSubsets
    SQLRowsetSize
    StartupChores
    TopLogging
    TopScanFrequency
    ViewConsolidationOptimizationMethod

We have a plan to lock down the tm1s.cfg file around the same time as the Planning Analytics on Cloud rich tier removal.  Please see: https://community.ibm.com/community/user/businessanalytics/blogs/sami-el-cheikh1/2023/12/14/using-planning-analytics-administration-to-modify.

However, we are postponing this change until the above parameters have been added to Planning Analytics Administration.  We did some analysis of tm1s.cfg files in our cloud environments and found plenty of incorrect spellings of parameter names and values, and plenty of parameters that have been deprecated in older releases of TM1 (e.g the parameter does nothing in the current release).  Forcing updates to the TM1 database parameters in Planning Analytics Adminstration will prevent these basic issue.  This change also allows us to control which parameters can be adjusted.  There have been instances of TM1 databases breaking resulting from changes to parameters that are automatically set in our cloud environments (e.g DatabaseDirectory and HTTPPortNumber).  Hopefully this provides a bit of context for this upcoming change.

    Hi Sami,

2 features I'm used to with Architect and for which I'm not sure how to do with PA 2.1.1:

    • client/group parameters : I use this button to change login page for TM1Web users. How can I do this in PA 2.1.1 ?
    • client/group management : I should move to PAW > edit the ClientGroup cube and set the value directly, right ?

    Many thanks for your help

    Hi Stuart.

Great to see the native TM1 user creation capability delivered in PAW on premise version 95. Do your future enhancement plans include supporting creating users for databases that are using security mode 5 CAM Security? Particularly when CAM is linked to active directory? i.e. to create users from active directory that will be able to achieve single sign on for PAW. PAFE and TM1 Web?

    Hi Paul,

We are still investigating how we might use Workspace to importing users and groups from Cognos Analytics (or Active Directory through Cognos) into Workspace, and then pushing those same users and groups to TM1 databases.  CAM is a bit more complex.

    Hi Rob,

You can already update these setting without Architect or Perspectives today.  Those settings are simply stored in the }ClientSettings cube in TM1.  You can modify the values in the }ClientSetting cube with the cube viewer in Workspace modeling or even a book.

We will consider adding user interface in the the modeling workbench Users and Groups area to make it easy to select the default Websheet in TM1Web for a user.

It's probably worth mentioning that our roadmap includes improvements to the Websheets experience in Workspace so our customers can directly port applications built for TM1Web into Workspace.

I'm clicking on the log files in windows file explorer, right-clicking to choose properties, then advanced, then I check the "compress file to save disk space" option.  Since these are ascii files they take up much less space compressed.  But I do it only for files that are not active as I don't want to impact server performance by compressing the logs folder and all contents.

Stuart - Thanks for the update! Yes, I know that is where the data is stored. We should be able to pick the file. I am assuming that once the File Manager has access to the data directory, we would be able to navigate to the }Externals folder to grab the name, or even better would be a UI to be able to select the file like you mentioned.

    Hi Rob,

We will consider some sort of user interface to allow the selection of the websheet from the applications folder (now the Websheets folder in PAW).  There are a number of higher priority items we are addressing before the rich tier is removed such as File manager access to the S: drive and saving TM1 native views.  I suspect we won't tackle this item until the end of this year.

    Hi Stuart,

I don't want to make any assumptions so please forgive me if the answer to this seems obvious to you or these queries have been answered elsewhere,

If we want to take backups of the data folder, and/or delete the data folder and restore from a backup or from a folder held externally, will we be able to copy and paste via File Manager? Will we be able to upload./download folders/files from/to the File Manager from say our laptops?

Will we be able to zip/unzip folders in file manager?

    regards,

    Hi Mark,

The answer to all of your questions is yes.  You will be able to do all of the things you suggested in the File Manager (Drive Explorer is just a special version of the File Manager that can access more files).

This screenshot is taken from a development Planning Analytics on Cloud environment.  Hopefully it provides a bit of insight into what we are working on.

I've selected a complete database directory in the above example.

Important to note that not all Modelers will see the Drive Explorer button.  There is an access control to see the button and access the Drive Explorer.

Also, we will eventually move the File Manager to a tab in the Workbench as well.  It's a bit more convenient to have the File Manager in a tab when you are examining file output when developing and testing TI processes.

    Hi Gail,

IBM has announced the end of support for Planning Analytics Local 2.0.9 (please see: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6440995  ).  The upgrade path is Planning Analytics Local 2.1.  The 2.1 release does not include TM1 Perspectives, Architect, Performance Modeler and TM1 Applications (aka TM1 Contributor).  Documentation on this topic can be found here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.1.0?topic=21-understanding-planning-analytics-local-component-versions.  Note that 2.0.9 and 2.1 include the same TM1 Server, PASS (with TM1Web) and PAfE.  Migration from the 2.0 version of these components to the 2.1 version of these components is fairly trivial as there are matching releases (e.g 2.0.96 is 2.1.3).  Extended support is also an option for 2.0.9.

I fell sorry but the link does'nt work

    And just a question ....

Of all theURLs I know of to go to the IBM software download site, none seems to work any more, except FIX Central.

Where can I find PA setup (PA, PASS, PAW, PAFE) for local window, especially find a setup for PAW wich run on Windows 2019 (not yet 2022).

    Many thanks for your reply
    A second question is :
"Will PAFE soon be able to print a report (one file with several tabs, several files, pdf, etc.)? (Like Perspective does?)"
    Kind and best regards,

    Hi Josh,

    Thank for your answer.

But what bothers me is that as PA advances, the solution becomes more and more expensive to maintain a level of service comparable to what it was before, or to fight against the free features of the competition.
     - Need to buy docker runtime or Redhat
    - Need to buy ReportWORQ to emulate older, unavoidable Perspective features,
    - New SAP Connector for 50 k€,

It's true that the disappearance of the Rich Tier Client will enable IBM to make economies of scale, but we mustn't forget that behind this, we have our customers, PA users in some cases for many years, who are being forced to think about a change of strategy, since what they had bought is no longer there.

    Kind regards,
    Philippe

We have the same concern as Rob Baierle mentioned in an earlier post regarding the Client Settings and using a TM1 web sheet as a Home Page.

As background, we migrated to IBM Cloud in 2019 and were using client home pages prior to this when on premise.  Our users log in to TM1 Web and each user has a Web Home Page Object entered in the }ClientSettings control cube.  The path used is from the blob file, ENTRYREFERENCE.

In Perspectives, we could update or refresh a web sheet and then upload to the TM1 Server.  When this step is completed, the ENTRYREFERENCE would not change.  This was helpful so that web sheets could be updated without having to also update the reference in the }ClientSettings cube.

Using PAfE, when publishing a web sheet as an update and selecting to replace the existing file, I have found that the reference path is also being updated.

This is going to cause issues with web sheet maintenance that are used as Web Home Page Objects and requiring reference updates.  I also use these same references in hyperlink formulas on web sheets.

Will an update option be available in PAfe, like Perspectives, so that the reference path does not change?  Or is there a different process to be used when updating or refreshing a web sheet?

    Hi Sami,

We have Application Web deployed in our production server for our users.

Just trying to get some clarification, as I'm currently getting mixed messages from support.

From what has been said so far:

IBM has no intention to stop Application Web, however the access to Performance Modeller will be lost when the rich tier goes.   Applications will still be "Accessible" just not "Re-deployable".

There will be a replacement for Responsibility workflow (which should be:  'Take Ownership' / 'Reject' / 'Submit' as per Application Web, on elements of a dimension subset).

This will be in place for testing in 'SC98 - July 2024' ready for us to start testing.

Workflow items will still be able to use sandboxes and be able to commit,  reset data etc.

There is no direct migration path between the two products so we will have to manually recreate the workflow between old and new systems.

Is there any documentation about the new "Responsibility" workflow replacement?

    Many Thanks

    Jules
