  • 1.  Migrate work done from a license to another

    Hi, a client has done a lot of work on cloud cognos analytics. She has cancelled the license due to issues related to IBM Customer Number that were keeping the subscription on hold, and she worries she cannot ttransfer the work done into a new license. Is anyone aware of a way to migrate the work done using the new license?

    Hi,

    I'm assuming this is the on-demand cloud version of Cognos Analytics? There are no export/import capabilities included with the on-demand version, sadly. Depending on what work has been done, you may be able to export the spec of authored reports/dashboards/data modules one at a time. For a dashboard in the original instance, go into edit mode and enter the key sequence "Ctrl", "/", "q" (press all three keys together) - this will bring up a pane containing the dashboard specification. Copy the spec. Now go into the new instance and create a new dashboard. Making sure you are in edit mode, enter the same "Ctrl", "/", "q" simultaneous key presses, and the specification pane will appear. Paste in the specification from the original dashboard, then press the Update button. It's the same process for data modules.

    For a report in the original instance, open the report in edit mode, and from the ellipsis on the toolbar (three dots), and choose "Copy report to clipboard". Then in the new instance, create a new report, and making sure you are in edit mode, press the ellipsis and choose "Open report from clipboard". Paste in the specification, then save the report.

    Hi,

    IMHO while it is possible to generate the specs for the content clearly that can become very tedious as the volume of content increases.  It seems that anyone who holds a license should be able to have a full deployment export be created of their content which they can then hold and have that full deployment imported under a reinstated or new license.
