What are recommended strategies/methods for managing thousands of users in PAW?  Not PA Server, but PAW.  The question is revolving around that in PA Server, user/group assignments can be managed in AD, but this capability is not available in PAW.

    Hi Nick,

we are facing the same challenge. PAW currently only offers a manual upload via csv. Since our users can change daily, this would be a lot of manual work for us. Is there a solution from a Planning Analytics expert?

    Nick,

Thanks for reaching out.  Greatly appreciated.

Not really.  What I was looking for was a "best practice" model if for nothing else a base idea.  We're working through Plans and how that is setup and integrated with PAW security.  Right now, it looks like a nightmare in terms of management and, based on that, I fear we are misunderstanding something.  In other words, it shouldn't be that difficult, you know what I mean?

Are there any plans to implement a PAW REST API for managing users? This would easily resolve the issue.

    Hi Vlad,

We do have plans for a public REST API for Planning Analytics Workspace.  Note that Workspace already uses a REST API.  You can probably see some of these REST API endpoints in action by examining the network traffic from your browser while using Workspace.  However, the current REST API is only intended to be used by the Workspace front end.  You're welcome to leverage the existing internal API, but there are no guarantees that endpoints won't change and no support.

We do see the value in providing an external REST API with documentation and support that could be used by 3rd party tools and scripts.  Management of Workspace users and groups with this sort of external REST API is an important use case.  Other user cases include automation of the baseline forecasting service, validation of Workspace books, lifecycle automation, etc.

Note that we are planning an enhancement in Planning Analytics Administration that will allow users and groups to be imported from the TM1 database being used for authentication.  This will specifically support on-premise Planning Analytics deployments that are not using Cognos Analytics for authentication.
