How to add comments in Dashboard, Report, Story

  • 1.  How to add comments in Dashboard, Report, Story

    Good morning,

    I have been looking for days and I can't find the information.
    I can't find the way to add comments, how can I do it? can I add comments in a dashboard, report, story? If yes, how to do it?
    And if a customer would like to add comments, how can I add this option?

    Hi David,

    There is no such feature out of the box. 

    I guess you are not trying to add a comment into an expression such as :
    /* This is a test */

    But when you tell me this is in the table where the calculations are made?
    I'm new to cognos (2 weeks) and I'm still missing a lot of notions.
    I want the end user, the one who will analyse the data, to be able to write comments, I don't know if I'm making myself understood.

    By customer, do you mean a user of Cognos Analytics? The only way I know you can add comments is to saved report output.

    when i say client i mean the final client i mean i create a report or dashboard for someone, and that someone can write comments (in short the one who will analyse the data).

    Hi David,

    there is no comment feature in dashboards to be used directly on the canvas. The user can write comments when shareing their dashboard tab:

    David, if you wanted to add comments to content as an author, could you use a text widget. 

    If you wanted consumers to add comments could you use sharing with email or slack integration turned on. When they share they can add annotation to the image. I know this does not persist any comment on the actual dashboard for others to see.

    Hi David, 

    Workspace (the earlier dashboard tool) has that option but the new dashboarding tool or story doesn't have that capability yet. You can integrate slack and collaborate but I do not think you can add comments and save. Not sure if there is any accelerator our there; unfortunately the site is down since yesterday and I couldn't check.

    Good morning,
    But what I want is that the final customer, the one who will analyse the data (someone from another company), can add comments. If I use slack, it might be useful internally, but the clients might not use slack and I don't think it is practical for them.
    On the other hand, I have tried to add slack but I got an error and I can't link it (to make collaborations internally), so I don't know what to do.

    We are working on a Narrative Service, which will allow you to add texts with narratives explaining the charts (generated by AI or manually by the person creating the dashboard).

    Hi Rodrigo,

    Is the Narrative Service still in development? If so, I'd really like to be involved in this as my organisation has needed this for years and I've ended up creating workarounds using javascript and write-back stored procedures to facilitate this, but I really need an elegant solution out of the box in Cognos.
